Surf Ballroom
Clear Lake, Iowa
On February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and The Big Bopper performed their last show in the Surf
Ballroom. The plane they chartered to go to their next show crashed shortly after takeoff. Don McLean's American
Pie refers to the crash as the day the music died.
Returning to the World
First convention since 2019 as Covid restrictions ease. Monroeville, PA July 2021
Steel City Con in Monroeville Pennsylvania usually runs in April, August, and December. Due to Covid there were
none held in 2020 or April of 2021. They were finally able to hold one in July of 2021 and set record attendance
figures for each of the 3 days.

July 2021, Celebrity guests speak to an audience.
A popular culture convention needs celebrities to draw customers. Hers we have a crowded ballroom to see two
stars of MASH answer their questions. Although people were crowded and masks were rare there was now breakout of
Covid after the convention.

Fake Fans
Cutouts in WVU Coliseum
College basketball went on in 2020-21 season without fans until late in the season. Many places sold fans a
seat for a cutout of them to be placed. Picture taken in April of 2021 with the cutouts still in their seats.

Dove in the Rain

Just noticed the Dove sitting there with raindrops on its feathers. Grabbed my camera and got the picture.
Foggy Morning

Woke early and caught this scene from the top of one WV mountain looking across the Monongahela River at the
West Virginia University Coliseum. The top of the Coliseum is rising through the fog.
