Buffalo, NY (May 15, 2022) -- The day after a professed White supremacist gunned down 10 African-American residents of Buffalo at a neighborhood Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Street on the east side of the city. Residents from across the Buffalo area spontaneously gathered outside the Tops Market in the aftermath of the massacre to pay tribute and pray for the victims and their families.
On the day after the beyond-tragic slaughter of 10 fellow Buffalo residents just one mile from my home, I was compelled to leave flowers and a homemade "Teach Tolerance" sign in front of the Tops Market. A large and growing crowd was gathering in front of the grocery store on Jefferson Street, and spontaneous prayer circles were forming on this Sunday afternoon. I stood back, listened and observed as people of all colors and faiths joined together to pray for the victims, their families, and for healing and peace.
