Scarrah image 1 Dogsledding in Montana.
February 2022; beautiful winter day to dogsled with a team of 10 Alaskan Huskies in the Montana Wilderness. Moonlight Basin, Big Sky, Montana.
A glorious winter morning with fresh snow, 10 Alaskan huskies, one of my best friends from junior high and miles of wilderness in Montana. 21 months after an accident that left me temporarily immobile in a wheelchair, and unable to ski for two years, I experienced freedom with these marvelous dogs in the Montana wilderness. This dogsled experience was my “reward to self” after a full recovery, and since we were both from Montana, (and not winter adventure tourists) we were allowed to mush solo with no guide on our dog sled. They figured we knew how to handle the dogs and the snow. In my case they were half correct. The snow. The dogs were a gamble, but in the end, absolutely marvelous. We took turns mushing and riding. With our 10 dogs, we were a formidable team. Before we were assigned a sled, we introduced ourselves to all 60 four-legged mushers; we didn’t know which 10 would be selected to take us on this journey. The dogs respected us. We respected them. Photo taken from POV as a passenger instead of a lead.

Scarrah image 3 Just Be Happy.
Hindu Sadhus at Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu, Nepal.
A Sadhus (good or pious practitioner) at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal. This colorful Hindu principally trains to just “be happy.” But being happy and worshipping one or another form of the god Vishnu generally requires a token fee to take a photograph. No money was exchanged for this photo. I have often found a simple “thank you” in the native language is worth more than any financial transaction. (धन्यवाद्), “dhanyavaad” is golden.
Scarrah image 4 Innocence
Young Indian girl in colorful costume “pimped out” by family for photos. Jaipur, India.
A very difficult photo to take. This was a young girl who was literally “pimped out” for money generated by tourists taking her photo in Jaipur, India. She was a trusting, innocent young girl. Her father arranged the clothing, jewelry and oversaw the “look” emanating from his daughter. I was both shocked and compelled to follow through and actually take several photos. I questioned the father, “how is this helping your daughter learn to be independent?”, “do you pay her an allowance?”,”is this acceptable?”. He didn’t answer any of my questions. His daughter didn’t speak or understand English, but I know she understood what I was asking based solely on the tone and urgency in my questions. Her photo haunts me. Her father disgusts me.
