HEIGHT OF ADORATION - Mary Magdalene shares coequal sacred space with Mother Mary, Uzes, France. Photo by Carol James

Despite ostracism, devotees of Mary Magdalene throughout the Languedoc-Rousillon region continue to find inspiration as feminists and pacifists in her enigmatic story as they have for two millennia. Saint Theodorite Cathedral, 5/28/18

Three windows of similar style and majesty depict Mary Magdalene, the Virgin Mary, and St. Theodorite. Many controversies and versions exist of the story of Mary Magdalene - she is depicted variously as Jesus' beloved companion...as having been exorcised...as having been a prostitute...as being the first apostle of Jesus Christ...as being a philanthropist who helped sponsor Jesus' work...as someone who fled by leaky boat and wind-tossed seas to live her days in the South of France

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS - What one expects magically morphs into a visual echo. Vaxjo, Sweden. Photo by Carol James

After Alice in Wonderland, novelist Lewis Carroll wrote Through the Looking Glass. The Swedish Glass Museum tells the story of glass making. Discovering wonders of fire and sand is ongoing – the work of each of us with an iPhone. 11/27/19

Carol James is seldom without her iPhone, which incessantly piques her curiosity with its visual, verbal, and audio temptations. Not only can she Zoom - watch, witness, participate, and observe - but she can create and imagine anywhere/anytime (yes - she owns some Apple stock). A journalism graduate of the University of Minnesota, where she also studied photography, she worked for 40 years in journalism and public affairs in Minneapolis/St. Paul and Washington.
