15 September 2018. The Internet has become a basic utility for everyday survival in the modern world. And for science and business enterprises, Internet services like e-mail and the web are part of their basic infrastructure, as well as a source of innovation and growth opportunities.  As a result, the state of the Internet in a community or country is a key concern for citizens and stakeholders. The links below from recent stories on Science & Enterprise give examples of cloud-based applications dependent on a healthy Internet.

In this weekend’s infographic, we offer a report from the Worldwide Broadband Speed League, a year-long compilation of 163 million Internet speed tests in 200 countries, displayed and published on Thursday by our friends at Statista. The data show Singapore has the fastest average download speed exceeding 60 megabits per second, followed by 9 European countries with 30 to 46 megabits per second speeds. The U.S. ranks in 20th place with an average download speed of nearly 26 mps, leading Germany, Canada, and the U.K., which report from 24 to 18.5 mps.
