The LED-based lights are developed for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lightingafrica.org\/\">Lighting Africa<\/a>, a joint initiative between the World Bank and International Finance Corporation.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next 18 months, the LRC will lab test light emitting diode (LED) off-grid lighting products, in particular solar-charged LED lights. The tests will also cover lighting systems with various charging systems and energy storage technologies. The tests will evaluate the products on a number of performance and reliability criteria.<\/p>\n<p>The World Bank plans to use the results of LRC&#8217;s tests to provide feedback to manufacturers and institutional buyers for the region, and they may also encourage development of a lighting quality seal recognizable by consumers as part of the Lighting Africa strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Lighting Africa, a joint IFC and World Bank program, seeks to accelerate the development of commercial off-grid lighting markets in Sub-Saharan Africa as part of the World Bank\u2019s efforts to improve access to energy.
