We&#8217;ve reported at Science &amp; Enterprise many new ways of <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebusiness.technewslit.com\/?s=phone\">using smartphones<\/a>, particularly for health care and data gathering. These devices &#8212; used more as pocket computers than phones &#8212; are ubiquitous, easy to operate, and increasingly inexpensive. But they&#8217;re also addictive, a condition our friends at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/12403\/smartphone-addiction\/\">Statista<\/a> documented earlier this week, and it&#8217;s our weekend infographic.<\/p>\n<p>For example, smartphone owners in the U.S. check their devices on average 47 times a day. In addition, more than 80 percent check their phones within an hour after waking up or going to bed, with more than one-third (35%) doing so within 5 minutes of waking or going to bed. Does that describe your behavior? (I plead guilty as charged.)
