5 May 2018. Since we began, Science & Enterprise followed the steady involvement of the tech industry in biomedical research and the health care field overall. I also wrote a piece for Futurism<\/a> about a year ago documenting this trend. Our friends at the technology research firm CB Insights<\/a> released a report this week about Google’s growing presence in health — the familiar term Google is used here as shorthand for the parent company Alphabet — particularly its use of artificial intelligence to redesign large segments of the industry.<\/p>\n

One indicator of Google’s expanding involvement in health care is its venture investments in digital health and health technology start-ups, which is this weekend’s infographic. As the simple chart shows, since 2013 the number of investment deals by Google Ventures, now known as GV, tripled from 9 to 27. The CB Insights report goes into more detail about the technologies deployed and disease areas addressed in these investments, as well as the ways other parts of Google are making their presence known in the health care field.<\/p>\n
