5 Jan. 2019. Yesterday, stock prices jumped sharply including for biotechnology companies, an industry we follow on Science & Enterprise. We’ll check in from time to time on the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index<\/a> that tracks 223 biotech industry stocks, and on Friday that index closed at 3,228.22, an increase of 3.4 percent for the day. The Nasdaq overall<\/a>, dominated by technology industry stocks, rose 4.3 percent for the day.<\/p>\n

But smart investors advise taking a longer view of market changes, and over the past 3 months, the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index shows a different story, pictured in this weekend’s infographic. For the past 3 months, the index is down about 15 percent. While the trend is up from the deep trough on 24 December, there’s still a long way to go.<\/p>\n
