As the mobile world gears up for new 5G Internet services, customers are becoming more aware of the scope and magnitude of those services. Our friends at Statista published this week a chart comparing 5G service specifications compared to the latest 4G/LTE specs, from the Android Authority web site, this weekend’s infographic.

In short, 5G blows away 4G/LTE. The specs show 5G provides peak download speeds of 20 gigabytes per second, compared to 1 gigabyte for 4G/LTE, with everyday downloads for 5G still with a 10-to-1 edge: 100 megabytes per second for 5G compared to 10 megabytes per second for 4G/LTE. In addition, 5G promises 10-to-1 advantages over 4G/LTE in maximum bandwidth and latency, the lag time from download request to download start, and more than 3-to-1 boost in the number of simultaneous carriers supported.

Carriers in South Korea and Verizon in the U.S. plan to roll out their first 5G services next month, mainly in a few large urban centers, and as one might expect, at a premium price. As we’ve noted on Science & Enterprise, many health and safety applications plan or are now sending and receiving data over the mobile Internet, with the pace of new apps rapidly increasing. A few recent examples are given in the links below.

More from Science & Enterprise:

App Created for New, Pregnant Moms in Opioid Recovery

Apps Shown to Reduce Blood Pressure, Detect Diabetes

Self-Powered Sensors Monitoring Mackinac Bridge

*     *     *

A chart comparing 5G service specifications compared to the latest 4G/LTE specs, from the Android Authority web site, this weekend’s infographic.

[15
109,86,78
post-36342","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-products","tag-computer-science","tag-engineering","tag-software
["GET
