17 Dec. 2020. A digital health company is partnering with a cardiologist group to capture data from smartphones and wearable devices to provide users personalized heart health information. Evidation Health<\/a> in San Mateo, California and American College of Cardiology<\/a> in Washington, D.C. unveiled the Achievement for Heart Health program to help individuals better understand their cardiovascular health outside of their doctors’ offices.<\/p>\n

Achievement for Heart Health<\/a> aims to collect data on health and fitness from individuals’ fitness trackers and apps on smartphones. Among the data gathered are physical activity, sleep, blood pressure, and heart-related symptoms. Those data, from potentially one millions or more participants, can then be analyzed for indicators of cardiovascular health, focusing initially on heart failure. Heart failure<\/a>\u00a0is a condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body\u2019s needs, a condition affecting some 6.2 million people in the U.S.<\/a>, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n

Evidation Health says its Achievement<\/a> platform, designed for online capture of personal health data for research, has some four million members, of which more than one million take part in health-related research. Achievement participants, says the company, reside in nine of 10 U.S. zip codes, who earn points redeemable for cash or charitable contributions for taking part.<\/p>\n

As part of Achievement for Heart Health, participants can receive personalized information on cardiovascular health from American College of Cardiology, or ACC. The organization offers a patient engagement program called CardioSmart<\/a> that includes a library of topics such as heart medications, nutrition, and stress management.<\/p>\n

“Together with ACC,” says Deborah Kilpatrick<\/a>, co-CEO of Evidation in a company statement<\/a>, “we look forward to collaborating with researchers and sponsors who are committed to developing products and services that are directly informed by patients in their everyday life.”<\/p>\n

As reported in Science & Enterprise, Evidation Health has initiatives capturing real-world data on Covid-19 infections and effects. In June 2020, the company began a program funded by Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, or BARDA, in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to detect early signs of Covid-19 infections<\/a> from individuals\u2019 activity and sleep data collected with smartphones and wearable devices. In May, the company began a survey in the U.S. with the New York City health department to gauge the mental health impact<\/a> of the Covid-19 pandemic, with data also collected with personal activity trackers.<\/p>\n
