Cornering BLM. Photo by Denny Gainer

Most weekdays, a small band of protesters gather at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and George Mason in Arlington to support Black Lives Matter.

My neighbors Bob Edgar and his wheelchair-bound son Lee began showing up on the corner shortly after George Floyd was murdered. Their goal is to grow support for BLM at rush hour, what's left of these days. The cacaphony of horns blowing in support is hope this country still can change for the better.

At one of Wynonna's last large concerts in March, fans were still rushing the stage to get selfies with the country legend.

Besides her giant voice, Wynonna also has a giant heart. She kept playing around with a fan trying to get a serious selfie with the star. The concert was at the New Orleans convention center March 2, 2020, a week after Mardi Gras, which was starting to spread covid-19 across the city. It was the last time life seemed normal, and fun.

The Storm. Photo by Denny Gainer

Storms along the Cape Cod National Seashore arrive in a flash, like this one ushering in a cold front in Wellfleet last year.

I currently work for the association that represents rural electric cooperatives (NRECA). Before that I was an editor, videographer and photographer at USA Today for over 20 years. And before that, The Detroit News and Journal Inquirer in Connecticut. Photography captures the human spirit in all of its forms and creates a timeless record of what actually occurred.
