About the photographer

Carol James is seldom without her iPhone at hand. She enjoys the stories...themes...messages her thousands of images continue to reveal to her. She began publishing in high school in the mid-'60s, graduated from J-School at the University of Minnesota, spent a career in journalism and public affairs in Minnesota and Washington, and resides in Alexandria, VA, with her husband Michael Moss and Covid puppy Lucy, a miniature long-haired dachshund (see her photo in the print display).

Nelly's Needlers curates an annual juried needlework exhibition to preserve and pursue fine needlework as well as to support the historic Woodlawn Plantation and Pope-Leighey House as community resources. Woodlawn was a wedding gift in 1799 for Nelly Parke Custis and Major Lawrence Lewis from Martha (Custis) Washington, her grandmother, and George Washington, his uncle. It had been part of the Washingtons' Mt.Vernon estate.
